Each island posted on this Gulf Islands tourism website provides a long list of hiking trails for you to explore and discover. Each hiking trail includes a detailed description, directions to the trailhead, services onsite and in most cases pictures.

There are a wide selection of hiking trails on the Gulf Islands. Each island unique in its own way. There are hiking trails leading to mountain viewpoints, sandy beaches, historic First Nation sites, wetlands, hidden coves, jagged bluffs and grassy knolls.

The trails vary from easy to difficult. Some navigate along mountain ridges gaining elevation with every footstep while others involve level hiking along rocky coastlines and though forests of Garry Oak and arbutus trees.

Many Gulf Island hiking trails are located within the park boundaries of a protected BC Park. These park trails tend to be well maintained and, may or may not include picnic tables, shelters, campsites and /or pit toilets.

There are trails on some of the Gulf Islands which connect the entire island together. These recreation trails act as transportation routes connecting with parks, beaches, marinas and villages. These longer trails tend to be multi use routes and are used by both hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers.

Some Gulf Island hiking trails provide an opportunity for beachcombing, camping, sightseeing, wildlife watching and birdwatching. Here are a few notable Gulf Island hiking trails with great views that will get your heart pumping.

North Gulf Islands

• The Beautiful Bay Hiking Trail on Malcolm Island leads to two mountain viewpoints ( Malcolm and Numas Lookouts ) . Each with amazing far reaching views.
• Rebecca Spit Provincial Park on Quadra Island includes a 2 kilometre sandy spit with a loop hiking trail leading to the point and a boating beacon.
• Mount Seymour Trail on Quadra Island leads hikers to 3 viewpoints and views of Nugedzi Lakes, the Coast Mountain Range and the Vancouver Island mountains.

Central Gulf Islands

• The east coast of Savary Island is a hike exploring a white sand beach for many kilometres from the southern tip of the island to the northern tip of the island.
• Boyle Point Park on Denman Island is a 25 hectare park with 1.5 kilometre hiking trail leading hikers to the top of a bluff where there are with views of Baynes Sound, Gravelly Bay and the Chrome Island Lighthouse

Southern Gulf Islands

• Mount Maxwell on Saltspring Island includes a network of hiking trails leading to summits overlooking Burgoyne Bay, Mount Bruce and Vancouver Island.
• Campbell Point Park on Mayne Island is a hiking trail to a lookout point on a small peninsula. The views include Saturna Island, Mount Baker, Campbell Bay, Edith Point, Bennett Bay, Georgeson Island and the Georgia Strait.
• Mount Norman on the Pender Islands is the highest point on the island measuring 244 metres. The summit hike provides a birds eye view of the islands and the surrounding ocean channels.
• Mount Galiano on Galiano Island is a hiking trail leading to a summit and far reaching views of Mt. Washington, the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, USA, Vancouver island, the Gulf Islands and the San Juan Islands.
• Gabriola Sands on Gabriola Island is a 6 hectare park features two sandy beaches, a picnic area and giant limestone rock formations. There is a 4 kilometre one-way waterfront hiking trail connecting Gabriola Sands to a lighthouse on Orlebar Point.
