| Hiking Each island posted on this Gulf Islands tourism website provides a long list of hiking trails for you to explore and discover. Each hiking trail includes a detailed description, directions to the trailhead, services onsite and in most cases pictures. There are a wide selection of hiking trails on the Gulf Islands. Each island unique in its own way. There are hiking trails leading to mountain viewpoints, sandy beaches, historic First Nation sites, wetlands, hidden coves, jagged bluffs and grassy knolls. The trails vary from easy to difficult. Some navigate along mountain ridges gaining elevation with every footstep while others involve level hiking along rocky coastlines and though forests of Garry Oak and arbutus trees. Many Gulf Island hiking trails are located within the park boundaries of a protected BC Park. These park trails tend to be well maintained and, may or may not include picnic tables, shelters, campsites and /or pit toilets. There are trails on some of the Gulf Islands which connect the entire island together. These recreation trails act as transportation routes connecting with parks, beaches, marinas and villages. These longer trails tend to be multi use routes and are used by both hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers. Some Gulf Island hiking trails provide an opportunity for beachcombing, camping, sightseeing, wildlife watching and birdwatching. Here are a few notable Gulf Island hiking trails with great views that will get your heart pumping. North Gulf Islands
