Mount Maxwell Salt Spring One of the splendours of Salt Spring Island is the spanning ocean, mountain and island views one can enjoy from the top of Mount Maxwell Park. Once at the summit park, there are viewpoints looking out, for miles on end, over the Burgoyne Bay and the Sansum Narrows.

From the parking lot, walk 100 metres to the main view point summit area - 602 metres (1975 ft) - which is safely fenced off from the cliffs below. Looking straight ahead, the island scenery opens up for miles with a full view of the activity below of boats coming and going from cove to inlet to bay.

Sansum Narrows Mt. Maxwell Bald Eagles circle below patrolling the skies. Ravens are close by watching their every move. To the right, some of the islands most beautiful scenery unfolds in the storybook coastlines... natures story - fully forested, jagged and rugged. To the left is a valley covered in farmer fields spread out like a chess board anchored by ocean on both sides.

The main view point on Mount Maxwell has wooden benches to sit on so one can truly relax and enjoy the view. Some exposed cliff rock also doubles as benches to sit back and relax. Along the fence is a short path to various other scenic moments looking out over Vancouver Island and beyond. The views are camera worthy, so do make sure to bring one.

The short walk to the viewpoint makes it an ideal destination for all. There are picnic tables on site near the entrance in the forested area. Mount Maxwell Park is an accessible mountain park by vehicle with a gravel parking area. The road to Mt. Maxwell is partly paved and mostly gravel. The road is very narrow, with many pot holes. Motorhomes or RV are not permitted on road to Mt. Maxwell. A short drive from the Village of Ganges south on the main road of Fulford - Ganges turn onto Cranberry Rd. The road turns into Mt Maxwell Rd. From the Fulford - Ganges Road it is a 9 Km drive.
