Island BC: Situated east of Chemainus, next
door to Kuper Island, only a short distance from the Wallace Island
marine park sits Thetis Island. Another west coast paradise in the
Strait of Georgia adding to the experience of the majestic marine
island atmosphere of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. A small
island, Thetis, only 10 square kilometres, offering a simpler lifestyle
with selective amenities available. With an artistic laid back population
of about 340 people, Thetis Island captivates simple island living
while enjoying a peaceful quiet lifestyle. The community mostly
shops in Chemainus and Duncan BC on the Vancouver Island, but a
local store is available to accommodate the everyday needs of the
Locals and Visitors. The lifestyle enjoyed by the Locals goes hand
and hand with the recreation and leisure activities of the area
like, hiking and walking along the forested areas, wetlands and
rock clefts afforded by the island. The bays, coves and the surrounding
marine parks entertain the many boats and kayaks that visit the
island regularly. Not to be outdone, many cyclists travel the trails
and roads available on Thetis Island to inject some fine visuals
of ocean scenery and marine wildlife into their memory photo album.
Discovered in 1873 with mud flats connecting Thetis and Kuper Islands
,until, in 1903 they dredged the area so boat traffic could pass
by. Thetis Island is fortunate like many areas of the Gulf Islands
to fall under the mystical Vancouver Island rain shadow, only receiving
an annual rainfall of under 900 mm.

How to Get
to Thetis Island:
Access Thetis Island via Chemainus
BC, only 73 km (43 mi) north of Victoria
BC, located just off the beaten path of Hwy 1. During your journey
to the pretty town of Chemainus BC you will encounter Duncan
BC and it's true native heritage. Duncan is 17 km (11 mi) south
of Chemainus. Only 10 km (6 mi.) south of Chemainus there is the
seaside mill town of Crofton BC with its BC Ferry boat ride
to Salt
Spring Island.
From Nanaimo BC it's 34 km (21 mi.) heading south down Hwy 1 to
Chemainus visiting the award winning town of Ladysmith
BC on the way. The terminal to ferry over to Thetis Island and Kuper
Island is in the downtown core of Chemainus. The sailing time to
Thetis Island is a 20 minute view-filled trip with captivating coastal
scenery. Kuper Island from Chemainus is 30 minutes. The route from
Thetis to Kuper is a 15 minute ferry ride. Fly and land on water,
take the float plane service from Vancouver to Thetis Island.
